University of Birmingham Dubai to offer PGCE optionsJuly 27, 2017, 1:10 pm GMT
The University of Birmingham's School of Education will offer postgraduate teaching certificates at its Dubai campus from September.
In launching the campus, the university will become the first global top 100 and Russell Group university to establish a campus.
The School of Education staff have been working with Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) on the development of teacher education programmes within primary and secondary education.
University of Birmingham Dubai will offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary English Education, a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Science Education, a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Maths Education, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education.
The programmes are all designed to meet recognised teacher standards in the UAE and UK, and time is spent in placement schools to develop the necessary experience and skills.
Professor Julie Allan, head of the School of Education commented: "The School of Education is proud to be offering teacher education at primary level and in secondary English and Science. Our high quality provision, judged as Outstanding by Ofsted, will enable us to support and develop excellent teachers in Dubai."
The School of Education at the University of Birmingham has a long-standing reputation as a centre of excellence for teaching and research in a wide range of areas of educational practice and policy. In the 2017 QS World Rankings, it was ranked 25th in the World and joint 6th in Europe.
