Over 2000 students and teachers evacuated after fire at Al Khaleej National SchoolOctober 12, 2017, 12:25 pm GMT
Around 2,200 students, teachers, and school staff at Al Khaleej National School were evacuated after a fire broke out in a classroom air-conditioning unit, Dubai Civil Defence said.
A Dubai Civil Defence spokesperson said the fire started around 11.50am at the school in the Al Garhoud area. Firefighters arrived at the school at 11.55am, Gulf News reported. The fire was brought under control by 12.20pm.
Eyewitness accounts state smoke could be seen rising from an AC mounted near a first floor ceiling.
In a statement to Khaleej Times, Gems Education, which runs the school, said: "We confirm that there was an isolated fire related incident that took place in an elementary art class room of Al Khaleej National School, located in the Garhoud area of Dubai.
"The Dubai Civil Defence Department took control of the situation. All students and teaching faculty were immediately evacuated from the premises and there were no injuries."
