GEMS Education to recruit more than 1000 new teachers in 2017January 26, 2017, 6:35 am GMT
GEMS Education will recruit between 1100-1200 new teachers for its UAE schools for the 2017/18 academic year, HR director Chris Marshall told Education Journal Middle East.
The number is significantly smaller than the 1700-plus teachers GEMS hired in 2016, which can be attributed to the fact that the school operator will not open any new schools during the next academic year.
Marshall said the operator will continue to tap into markets such as Ireland, South Africa, Jordan, Egypt, UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, and the Philippines, but is also looking to recruit teachers from Spain and Norway.
He explained: "That whole southern Europe and Scandinavia piece for different reasons are opportunities. I think we all need to prepare ourselves for fact that the UK isn't going to be quite as buoyant as we expect over the next few years, so therefore diversification is required. Finding other countries as a sustainable source of quality teachers is going to be the next big thing. But it's tough trying to get into these new markets."
GEMS Education currently operates 47 schools in the UAE and more than 250 schools globally.
