Dubai school evacuated after bomb threat hoaxFebruary 4, 2016, 10:42 am GMT
An official statement from Dubai Police states the threat at DBS was a "false alarm".
A statement on the Dubai Police and Dubai Media Office Twitter accounts said: "Dubai Police received a report about a security threat to a school in Dubai which turned out to be a false alarm.
"Relevant security teams have been sent to investigate and ensure everyone's safety. Dubai Police and concerned entities take such reports seriously".
Dubai Police are currently investigating the source of the false alarm.
Dubai British School evacuated more than 1,100 students this morning after school authorities received a bomb threat via a phone call.
Parents were informed about the incident and asked to collect their children from the school just before noon, a parent informed Education Journal Middle East.
A statement to parents from the school said: "Following an anonymous phone call to the school this morning, we implemented our security procedures; evacuated the school, and alerted the authorities.
The health and safety of our students is paramount and we would like to thank all of our parents for their support throughout this evacuation. The School will resume as normal on Sunday."
DBS is one of few Dubai schools that was originally scheduled to close early due to the Dubai Tour.
However, while parents were able to collect their children, students will not be allowed back in the school to collect their belongings until the police complete an ongoing search of the premises.
Amal BelHasa, chief of compliance & resolution commission at Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) said: "We are aware that a private school in Dubai evacuated its premises on Thursday morning. The evacuation was successful with the safety of students and staff given paramount importance. The school is working closely with relevant authorities to follow-up on the matter."
