Abu Dhabi launches app to track pupils on journey to schoolJuly 14, 2017, 10:45 am GMT
Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and Emirates Transport have launched Hafilaty, an app that enables parents to track their children to and from school.
The new technology is part of ADEC's efforts to enhance safety in school buses following the death of a young schoolgirl in 2014.
Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, executive director of the School Operations Sector in ADEC, said the smart services of the project include tracking systems on a smartphone application that inform parents about the bus location, and the pick-up and drop-off timings.
As part of the initiative, Emirates Transport has installed advanced systems, including GPS tracking systems to locate the bus and NFC technology on students' cards, state news agency WAM reported.
The Hafilaty app is available on Android and iOS. Parents can download it and login through their UAE ID number registered at the school, in order to receive daily notifications about the bus trips.
Last month, it was reported that the Ministry of Education and Emirates Transport has announced the adoption of the smart tracking system for students' safety.
The first phase includes installing the devices in 2,345 school buses between August and October, with implementation starting in November. The system will cover all school buses that service the 100,000 students enrolled in 383 government schools in Dubai and the northern areas.
The move comes just weeks after the Court of Cassation Abu Dhabi upheld the decision of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) to close Al Worood Academy Private School, after a three-year-old pupil died from heat exhaustion when she was left locked inside the school bus.
